What's on Offer

Skateboarding

Skateboarding

Skateboarding has been around since the 70s and over the past 40 years or so the sport has seen a lot of changes. Banana-board surf-style carving, big air vert, street skating, snake boarding, and these days long-boarding for chillaxation.

Scootering

Scootering

Now, scootering has been around longer than just about all the other roller sports combined, bar roller-skating. Google tells us that the first push-scooter was invented in Germany in 1817. Then in the USA, scooters gained popularity during the Great Depression, when children built their own out of planks of wood and spare wheels.

BMX

BMX

BMX, or bicycle motorcross (without motors), has been around almost as long as skateboarding. Taking off in the 80s on dirt tracks with plenty of tabletops, gap jumps and berms, BMX now rolls on whatever surface riders can get their tyres on.

Roller Derby

Roller Derby

Roller Derby is a fast-paced contact team sport that requires speed, strategy and athleticism. The sport began in 2001, and has been growing fast with more than 1000 leagues worldwide, including Napier's own Bay City Rollers, which started out in 2009.

Inline Hockey

Inline Hockey

Inline hockey is fast, exciting and builds a strong camaraderie among players. It's for boys and girls and is great for staying fit and healthy. Put simply, inline hockey is very similar to ice hockey but without the ice skates, with the ice being replaced by concrete.

Roller Blading

Roller Blading

Did you know? That rollerblading and inline skating are actually the same sport. That's because inline skating is called rollerblading much like we say 'hoovering' for vacuuming and 'make a Xerox' for doing a photocopy. Interesting stuff huh?

Bay Skate, Napier Skate Park

Bay Skate is a multi-use, world-class roller sports park on Napier's Marine Parade. It caters for skateboarding, roller derby, bmx, scootering, inline hockey, roller-skating, artistic skating and rollerblading. The park has a flat rink, wooden ramp section and concrete bowls.

Bay Skate is all about letting the good times roll. It's about having fun with your friends, learning new tricks, refining your skills, maybe a bit of competition and a few challenges, but all within a positive, safe and supportive environment. Blast the ramps, shred the bowls or spin the rink, it's up to you. If it's got wheels and you can strap them on or ride it, you're in.
