Skateboarding at Bay Skate, Napier
Skateboarding has been around since the 70s and over the past 40 years or so the sport has seen a lot of changes. Banana-board surf-style carving, big air vert, street skating, snake boarding, and these days long-boarding for chillaxation.
Skateboarding History
The 80s saw the sport go large literally with pool skating and massive vert ramps being the way to roll. From there 90s street skating kicked in as skaters began finding concrete, tile and metal urban environments to rip it up and create an entirely new style of skating that continues until today.
21st Century Skateboarding
Skateboarding has come and gone over the decades but it's back, pumping, and here to stay. At Bay Skate all the options are on the table from carving it up surf style to vert ramps to bowls to well, anything wheely. From those 70s retro boards to street and vert boards to long boards and snake boards, if you can stand on it and it has wheels, you're in with a grin.
